Mayfield House

Welcome to Mayfield House Children’s Home. We believe Mayfield House is a very special home for Children and Young People, which offers unique daily living experiences and activities that are meaningful and memorable and are designed to meet the needs of individual children in areas that are important to them.

About Mayfield House

Mayfield House is a residential Children’s home providing accommodation for Children and Young People from ages 10-18, who have Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and who can display complex and challenging behaviours, often as a result of early life trauma, neglect, and family breakdown or disruption.

The Home can provide accommodation for up to three Children and Young People of any gender. Our aim is to provide children and Young People with planned, whole year care, with Therapeutic Child Centred Support Plans, individually tailored Education and skills-based work programmes, working closely with our Clinical Psychologist, local Schools, health providers and other external provisions to meet the individual needs of our Young People.

At Mayfield House we believe that a nurturing environment of understanding, safety and support is fundamental to bringing stability to vulnerable children and young people. We will look to provide a homely, caring home where children who have previously experienced emotional trauma, social and academic challenges, and rejection, can stabilise their behaviour, build resilience and celebrate achievements in their lives.

We offer high quality, child-centred care delivered by qualified and well-trained staff with access to clinical oversight and support, helping young people to understand and overcome the difficulties they face in life. We will first work to help vulnerable children to feel safe, enabling them to stabilise, then to begin to understand and regulate their emotions and finally to take control of their lives.

Our Location

Mayfield House is situated on a quiet private road in Clayton, surrounded by hills and fields, a rural feeling suburb of Bradford. Mayfield House has ample opportunities surrounding the home which will support and benefit the needs of the young people in multiple areas such as education and health providers as well as a wide range of entertainment and activity projects in the surrounding communities. Although the home is set back, it’s also within close driving range to key motorways and access roads to neighbouring areas.

How we work with children and young people

At Mayfield House, our goals are to create a secure, welcoming, and nurturing environment that offers exceptional accommodation and care for children and young people. We offer a welcoming environment designed to resemble a typical family home, accommodating up to three children or young individuals. The dedicated staff at the home are extensively trained in implementing restorative practice and PACE. Restorative Practice involves addressing conflicts by prioritising the repair of harm that has occurred. It is an approach to conflict resolution that involves all parties involved, fostering a sense of inclusivity and collaboration.

Our staff are sensitive to the challenges faced by children and young people with complex needs, and reduced ability to express themselves or communicate. Staff members act as advocates for young individuals with appropriate permissions, ensuring their concerns are heard. Children and young people are provided with information on how they can express their concerns or complaints using communication methods tailored to their needs, such as communication in print format. Their viewpoints are regularly gathered, especially following incidents.  We work towards developing therapeutic attachments.

Clinical Oversight

Our homes follow a therapeutic model which is supported by a clinical psychologist who provides support, guidance and advice to both Children and Young People and the staff team.

This includes, but is not limited to;

  • Initial assessments as required
  • Staff consultation and clinical supervision in team meetings.
  • Oversight of our therapeutic care plans and behaviour support documents.
  • Regular observations of both the children’s behaviour and staff practice.
  • Regular therapy sessions for Children and Young People if required.
